If you’ve ever stood in front of a bookshelf wondering, “Which books actually matter right now?” this space is for you.
@vyhomelibrary began in our home library, surrounded by stacks of diverse books and a quiet realization: I didn’t know how to organize them in a way that truly served our family. My ultimate dream is still Belle’s library with a ladder, rolling shelves, and all but I didn’t want our home library to be filled with books we didn’t actually read.

With two curious kids and one simple question, this project was born:What if our home library could grow with our children slowly, intentionally, and joyfully?
I’m an educator, lifelong reader, and parent building a home library that evolves alongside our kids. In our home, books aren’t décor or collectibles. They’re well-loved, reread, questioned, and occasionally repaired with tape. They live in little hands.
This blog is a journal of that journey.
Why @vyhomelibrary Exists
I started @vyhomelibrary to document how we curate books at home, so one day my kids can read these notes in a future where physical books may feel like rare treasures. Along the way, I realized many families are craving the same things:
Fewer books, chosen more thoughtfully
Stories that reflect their identities
A system that doesn’t require constant buying or overwhelm
As an educator and former education director, I’ve spent years designing learning experiences and professional development. At home, I wanted to bring that same intentionality to our reading space — especially by proudly over-celebrating our Asian heritage, languages, and stories. Representation isn’t a bonus in our library. It’s foundational.
What You’ll Find Here
At @vyhomelibrary, I share:
Curated children’s book recommendations
Seasonal book rotations and themes
Reflections on reading, parenting, and identity
Books by Asian heritage authors across all genres
Where I source books — from major publishers to indie authors
Some of our favorite stories come from well-known publishing houses. Others are quiet gems from independent authors whose voices deserve to be heard. All are chosen with care.
A Living Library
My oldest is a LEGO master with an incredible memory. My youngest is a unicorn princess who loves language. They are very different readers! A home library isn’t static. It’s alive. It grows, shifts, and reflects the children who use it.
My hope is that this space helps you build a home library that feels possible, personal, and joyful for your kids, and maybe even for yourself.
Thanks for reading!
